After having Henry home for a few months, it was a little sad to have a quiet Thanksgiving. I know that’s how it’s been for a few years lately, but I didn’t realize how lonely the house can be without all my kids in tow.
It’s a good thing these three are quite the handful and make my life so blessed.
Hank had to work this Thanksgiving so he went in from 6-2. I think he could become addicted to the quiet drive and slow work schedule. Plus, coming home to a full Thanksgiving Neal was probably nice too.
I think this was my first experience cooking a turkey all by myself. We got a really little one. I wasn’t sure how to cook it so I did a lot of Pinterest searching.
I coated the turkey with oil and then stuck a quarter of onion and then some salt, lemon, thyme, and cumin inside it. I put it in the slow cooker and cooked it for half hour at 450 degrees. Then slowed it down and cooked it at 350 for 2 more hours.
I couldn’t find the lid to the slow cooker so I ended up lining the lid with three layers of aluminum foil and a towel and then a lasagna pan on top. It was quite the contraption.
Our table was pretty simple with an orange and blue color scheme. I never understood how people can have cute centerpieces and still have room for all the food. So I just focused on the place settings.
I actually found a few pieces of my china so for the first time in years I was able to use it. I sewed up some turkey faces for napkin holders. I think they would have been super cute with colored napkins to look like turkey feathers but of course, I couldn’t find my napkins.
Since I’m never around for Christmas, I actually started putting Christmas decorations up as I found them from the move. So the only Thanksgiving Decor that I had was this Count your blessings quote that I made. I tried to think of everything I could think of to be grateful for this year. We actually ended up reading it when Hank asked us what we were grateful for this year at the table. I don’t think he was thrilled but it was true none the less
